Flying a drone in Napa was an incredible experience! This was our first official flight while traveling with our new DJI Mavic Air drone.

Most of the video footage was captured after attending a wine tasting at Domaine Carneros Winery. We checked the airspace maps and noticed that if we went about 0.5 miles down Duhig Road, we would be outside the five-mile radius of the Napa County Airport. We parked off the side of the road and flew our drone along the surrounding vineyards. The view of the rolling hills and green vineyards was stunning!

We also included some vineyard footage that we captured from the northern side of Napa Valley. We were looking for a place away from the main road where we could fly without disturbing others, so we parked our car on the side of the road next to a beautiful vineyard.

For more drone shots from Napa, see our destination review of Napa. It includes drone footage from other areas, including near the Skyline Wilderness Park.

If you want to get even more serious about drones, consider getting an FAA 107 certification. While you can study for the test without a prep course, we recommend the Drone Pilot Ground School course taught by UAV Coach. We completed the course in January 2018 and passed the certification test with a 95%. Getting your FAA 107 certificate is not required for hobbyist pilots. However, you’ll learn a lot of fundamental aviation concepts that will make you a better drone operator and pilot.

If you’re interested, UAV Coach is offering our audience $50 off their Drone Pilot Ground School course. Just use TRIPASTUTE50 when signing up!
